Clara Strauss is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, mindfulness teacher and Research Lead at the Sussex Mindfulness Centre. Her research focuses on widening access to mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) to those who might not otherwise have access. First, through developing and evaluating MBIs for people who may struggle with the 8-week course because of current mental health difficulties (such as chronic depression www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22803939, psychosis www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4967452/ or obsessive-compulsive disorder trialsjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s13063-015-0664-7). Second, through evaluating self-help MBIs as a means of extending the reach of MBIs to those who might not be able or ready to complete the 8-week course (www.isrctn.com/ISRCTN41503149). Along with her collaborators, Clara has recently started to explore the definition and measurement of compassion (www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0272735816300216) with a view to developing and evaluating interventions that have the potential to enhance compassion for self and others, particularly in healthcare settings.
