Dr Frances Shawyer, BBSc(Hons), PhD, MAPS, MCCLP, has worked as a clinical psychologist and researcher for over 20 years in a variety of settings including public mental health, clinical research and private practice. Her main research interest is in mindfulness-based therapies: over the past 5 years she has led or co-authored 15 journal articles and book chapters related to this topic. Over the past 10 years, she has worked as a Research Fellow with Southern Synergy, Monash University. This role has included management of “DARE”, a large-scale trial of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for recurrent depression, and ongoing coordination of the Southern Synergy Mindfulness Program. During this time, she has also been a Chief Investigator and Senior Research Fellow with the “Lifengage” Project, a trial of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Medication-Resistant Psychosis run through La Trobe University. In addition to her research activities, Fran also works in private practice.
